Portal Knights – Review

Having just received a PlayStation Plus subscription for the next year, you can bet when the January free games came out that I would jump at the opportunity to give them a go.

The first game that caught my eye is Portal Knights. I have already sunk a number of hours into the game and I am having a blast.

What is Portal Knights?

On it’s website, Portal Knights is described as a cooperative 3D sandbox action RPG. This seems like a mouthful right?

Simply put, for me this is like Minecraft meets Lego. You have the building and resource mechanics of Minecraft combined with the colorful stylized design of something you might find in a Lego game.

What I like about this game

I will be the first to admit I never ventured far into the world of Minecraft, though it wasn’t for lack of trying.

So I was a bit skeptical when I chose to download and play this game.

My concerns were quickly alleviated however when I started to follow along with the well crafted but simple tutorials.

Once I started to understand the game mechanics and realized I could build my own base, I was hooked.

The characters, the music and the landscape of each level are so well designed and immersive that it is such a treat to spend 10 minutes or an hour working your way towards building, destroying, looking for items or battling enemies.

Try it for yourself

Don’t just take my word for it. If you have never played Minecraft before or would like to try your hand at something slightly different, I couldn’t recommend Portal Knights enough.
